School offers online design course

Aspiring garden designers short of the hours to undertake a full-time course can learn online through a three-year diploma scheme that launches next month.

The Inchbald School of Design is offering online diploma courses in garden design that include planting, landscaping, presentation and construction, starting on 16 April.

Programmed over three years, or as a two-year fast-track option, the online diploma will complement the existing traditional course at the school's headquarters in London.

School director Andrew Duff said once the course was off the ground it was likely that it would attract students from overseas as well as the UK. So far, 10 students have signed up for the programme, which includes five hours of online tuition each week.

Duff said: "People are a little bit scared of distance learning, but the students will be online at a set time and have to meet deadlines for assignments and projects, so they can't just put the book back on the shelf."
