The Flanders Farm site on Kent's Hoo Peninsula will consolidate work previously done on three separate sites. King described its opening as "a great step for the apple industry and for our customers who will see more British fruit on shelves".
Company partner and project manager for the move Ross Goatham said that with a new high-speed internal assessment system, "we can offer our fruit with absolute confidence to our retail partners whilst doing the very best we can for our partner growers".
Some 80 per cent of the grower's apples go to Sainsbury's, which it has supplied for 10 years.
