Is there a ride-on flail mower available in the UK?

Yes, you have a choice. Tracmaster of Burgess Hill, West Sussex, offers the Stella R95 ride-on flail mower with 95cm cutting width. This machine has a cutting mechanism comprising 48 swinging Y-shaped flails. It's a rear discharge machine and cutting height is adjustable from 80mm down to 30mm. With hydrostatic transmission, it should be easy to drive. Best of all, you can have this mower with a Kohler 25hp petrol engine, a 22hp Briggs & Stratton Vanguard petrol engine or a Lombardini 17hp diesel engine.

Another machine you should look at is the Profi Hopper from Amazone, of Doncaster, which is versatile in the tasks it can perform. The Profi Hopper can mow and/or scarify - and it collects via an archimedean screw mechanism. A bonus is the high-tip 730-litre hopper, which empties at a height of 2.1m.

Power for the Profi comes from a three cylinder, 24.5hp Lombardini water-cooled diesel engine, delivering mowing capabilities in long, wet grass and speeds up to 10km/h. Transmission is hydrostatic with twin hydraulic pumps and drives. The cutting mechanism comprises 36 pairs of sharpened long-wing blades, which can be swapped for 76 scarifying knives. The price is £19,000 ex VAT.
