RHS awards five Victoria Medals of Honour

The RHS awarded Victoria Medals of Honour (VMH) to five leading horticulturists at Hampton Court Flower Show this week.

There are only 63 VMHs at any one time. The honour is the highest that the RHS gives. The Countess of Wessex presented medals to the following: Tozer Seeds managing director Dr Peter Dawson, former National Trust head gardener and RHS Rosemoor adviser Michael Hickson, Hillier chairman Robert Hillier, Ashwood Nurseries owner John Massey and the Dowager Marchioness of Salisbury.

Veitch Memorial Medals were presented to the broadcaster Dr Stefan Buczacki, designer Arabella Lennox-Boyd, Cotswold Garden Flowers owner Bob Brown, orchid grower Haruhiko Nagata and the wildlife conservator Dr Jennifer Owen.

Associates of Honour went to National Trust's Valerie Anderson, NIAB's Michael Day, National Trust's Peter Hall, chrysanthemum grower Ivor Mace and former Coblands Nurseries director Ken Turner.
