Renewed RSS role with council

RSS Playmakers is renewing its role with Hackney council

Award-winning work for Hackney Borough Council by HW play area contractor of the year, RSS Playmakers, has led to the company securing a new three-year playground maintenance contract with the London council. In 2002 the council realised that because of limited funds it could provide only routine inspections and essential repairs on its sites. RSS became supply-chain partner in 2003 when the company agreed to maintain play equipment. Council principal surveyor Richard Wiles said: “We realised in 2003 that the budget would not allow us to undertake all of the maintenance and equipment replacement we would’ve liked. By changing our focus in inspections we were able to work with RSS Playmakers to develop a strategy.” Hackney allocated a budget of £91,000 for inspections and maintenance, and a bigger capital budget for new equipment for 2004-05. Wiles added: “In delivering maintenance services to Hackney Borough Council for the past three years, RSS Playmakers has demonstrated its capabilities. It was willing to take on the refurbishment of other manufacturers’ products and work strategically with us.” Managing director Peter Bullock said: “Our partnership approach has resulted in the development of a sound and cost-effective maintenance strategy.”
