Florist Magazine'a Valentine’s 2016 survey found 64 per cent of florists matched last year's trade.
Some 46.09 per cent recorded a drop in turnover – on average 12 per cent — while another 53.91 per cent were either on par or better than last year.
February 14 2015 was a Saturday while February 14 2016 was a Sunday, which meant on both days there were few bouquets delivered to workplaces.
In roses, Red Naomi and Freedom took the top two places, Freedom five per cent in the lead. Almost half sold novelty Rainbow roses and one-third sold blue, and more than a quarter chocolate and glitter respectively. Almost 4/10 said they sold more alternative flowers to red roses than last year.
Half had average sales between £30 and £40 and one-third from £40—£60.
