The plant was in development for 3 years and reached European markets last April.
German minister of agriculture and environmental protection and consumer protection Ilse Aigner presented the award to Proven Winners (PW) directors.
PW director of new products for North America Dr Rick Schoellhorn said: "Our goal is to have unique genetics but also plants that excite the end consumer so an award like this is especially a stamp of approval which shows not only that consumers want it but also that the industry appreciates the genetics."
The company picked up the same award last year for lobularia Snow Princess.
Picasso is sold in the UK through Kernock Park Plants.
Kernock business development manager Mark Taylor said he was delighted.
