Fruit quality is said to be high too, with this season's cool, damp conditions yielding sweeter, juicier berries.
Laurence Olins, chairman of industry body British Summer Fruits, said: "British blueberries are one of the success stories of British horticulture and the fastest growing soft-fruit sector."
Demand for the fruit has increased by 22 per cent over the past four years. Great Britain has what is claimed to be the longest blueberry harvesting season of any country, at five months.
The surge in the fruit's production this year has been ascribed to bushes planted over the past five years coming into full production.
