Product launches - January/February 2011

Matthew Appleby assesses a dozen products recently released for the garden retail sector.

Burgon & Ball has launched Giant Wooden Plant Labels. The 30cm pre-printed FSC hardwood labels are designed for identifying and distinguishing individual rows of plants and those in containers. The collection runs to 24 different plant varieties. RRP £2.49. Dutch plant pot company Elho has introduced a new line, the Brussels Oval, designed for narrow window sills. RRP ranges from £2.99 to £9.99.

Haywood Products has launched an animal-, bird-, verminand insect-repellent rubbish-bag range. The Repellem Bag deters wildlife from refuse bags through its red colour and scent. It is made using EcoSmartPlastics and is biodegradable.

De Jager has introduced Jager Bulb Magic to the garden retail market. It is a feed developed to enhance the performance of bulbs and includes nitrogen, calcium, magnesium and boron. One litre of Bulb Magic dilutes to up to 180 litres. RRP £9.95.

RainCan is a new watering can from 4 Leaves that collects rainwater and is stackable. The can costs £6.99-£7.99 through Solus. Inventor Peter Manning has also launched the Wellitop, a cover/carrier for Wellingtons launched at Glee last September.

Globus has launched a smaller size 5 purple Showa Floreo 370 glove aimed at children.

Growth Technology has introduced Complete Care for Orchids Gift Boxes. The gift set includes Orchid Focus Grow, Orchid Focus Bloom and Orchid Ultra. The packs are available in both 100ml (RRP £9.99) and 500ml (£13.99) bottle sizes.

The Stewart Company has launched a range of Zurbano Planters available in two colours, graphite and stone, and in round and square shapes manufactured in ABS (RRP £29.99). The company won the Klondyke Group Dry Goods Supplier award last year.

Gardening for Butterflies, Bees and other beneficial insects (ISBN 978-0-9555288-0-4) by Jan Miller-Klein has been published (RRP £19.95).

Greentree Garden Products has launched the All-in-One multipurpose patio garden complete with covers for all-season gardening. The cold frame, raised bed, propagator and protective cloche comes in three sizes (RRP from £19.99 to £39.99).

"Top-quality garden-care products in premium packaging but with lower prices" have been launched by Doff Portland. The range spans pest control and garden and household care, weedkillers, lawn care, liquid feeds and plant care and Going for Green eco-friendly products.

Solus has unveiled a range of non-chemical pest-control products, called Pest Patrol. The range features products designed to tackle a variety of pests, from rats and mice to cockroaches, pigeons and even dogs and cats.
