Power tool and wild bird care sales continued upward trend in 2015

Sales of power tools grew in 2015, continuing the growth of 2014 though at a slower rate. For the year, sales volumes were up 7.2 per cent, driving 9.8 per cent value growth.

For quarter four, value sales accelerated further ahead of volume, driven by the £2.81 increase in the average selling price of power tools.

Market analyst GfK also found that the wild bird care market showed a "remarkably strong performance" during 2015, registering growth in both volume (18 per cent) and value (15 per cent) versus 2014.

Media interest outweighed mild weather to boost the category, according to GfK.

The fastest-growing category - albeit the one with the smallest share - has been feeders with food (filled feeders), which has grown by 23 per cent in value, followed by accessories including products such as feeder poles and nesting boxes, which saw 22 per cent more money spent on them last year than in 2014.
