Suppliers were invited to "bridge the gap between the suppliers and the garden centres". They discussed ideas such as point of sale.
Some 62 delegates from garden centres attended plus 12 suppliers including Fargro, Hortipak, Teko and Syngenta.
Porters' Natalie Porter, who won top sales or marketing professional at the recent Grower Awards, said there was a feeling that garden cenrtes and nurseries needed to "tell the stories behind the plants", such as why they were selling sunpatiens and not impatiens and the difference between the two.
She said that planterias did not have as many staff as they would like so information boards were becoming more valuable.
