Plantarium releases details of plants entered for the show's new plant awards

The plants which will be taking part in the new plant contest at Plantarium (27-30 August Boskoop) have been revealed.

They include:

Compass Plants B.V. from Hillegom has entered two new Astilbes, 'Raspberry' and 'Versred'.

Astilbe 'Visions Inferno' is being marketed by Futureplants from Lisserbroek, which has also entered the plant for the new plant awards. The plant was bred by VOF de Draak from Noorden.

 Astrantia major 'Star of Magic' is a variegated Astrantia entered for the new plant awards by Het Hoefblad from De Hoef. The plant is marketed by Het Hoefblad and Gootjes Allplant. 

 Buddleia 'Pink Micro Chip' is a new addition to the current 'Chip' varieties bred by Dr. D. Werner from the North Caroline State University in Michigan. Valkplant BV from Boskoop is marketing PINK CHIP and also entered it for the new plant awards.

Campanula punctata 'Silver Bells' was bred by Specialis Plants B.V. from Oude Wetering. Compass Plants B.V. from Hillegom entered this variety for the new plant awards and is marketing the plant in collaboration with Walter Blom Plants.

Hoogeveen Plants b.v. from Hazerswoude has entered two cultivars from the Campsis SUMMER JAZZ series for the new plant awards, Campsis 'Takarazuka Fresa' and Campsis 'Takarazuka Yellow'.

Clematis 'Zo09045' (BLUE OCEAN) is a winter-hardy semi-climber bred by J. van Zoest B.V from Boskoop in 2006, selected in 2009 and introduced at Plantarium 2014 under the trade name BLUE OCEAN because of its profusion of flowers.

Clematis 'Zo09087' (ROSALYN) is a winter-hardy climbing plant bred by J. van Zoest B.V from Boskoop in 2006, selected in 2009 and introduced at Plantarium 2014 under the trade name ROSALYN.

Clematis Container Nursery from Poland has entered five new varieties of clematis for the new plant awards: 'Maria Sklodowska Curie' 'Morning Sky', 'Skyfall', and 'Starburst.'

Dianthus 'Hilbeanaom' is from HilverdaKooij BV from De Kwakel and is from the Beauties series.

Dianthus ‘Hiljagua’ belongs to the Sunflor series and is from HilverdaKooij BV.

Dicentra 'Love Hearts' was bred by Götenborgs Botaniska Trädgärd from Gothenburg. Compass Plants B.V. from Hillegom is marketing the plant.

Dicentra 'Sulphur Hearts' was bred by Compass Plants.

Dicentra 'Sweet Hearts' was bred by Akira Shiozaki from Japan and entered by Compass Plants B.V.

HilverdaKooij BV from De Kwakel has entered four PBR-protected Echinaceas from the Mooodz range for the new plant awards:  Echinacea 'Mooodz Shiny', Echinacea 'Mooodz Cosy', Echinacea 'Mooodz In Love' and Echinacea 'Mooodz Joy'.

Fragaria ananassa 'Hansawhit’ - Handelskwekerij G. Hoogenraad BV entered this white strawberry for the new plant awards.

Gentiana 'Little Pinkie' is new from CNB Vaste Planten from Lisse. It was bred by John Moffat and Ed Morgan from New Zealand. They are also marketing this plant, together with CNB Vaste Planten.

Florist Holland B.V. from De Kwakel has entered two new Patio Gerberas for the new plant awards. Gerbera jamesonii 'Grand Canyon' and Gerbera jamesonii 'Karoo'.

Hebe 'Eyecatcher'

E was bred by Leo Vergeer from Boskoop. A.N.M. Rijnbeek from Boskoop is marketing the Hebe ‘Eyecatcher’. It was entered for Plantarium by Breederplants V.O.F. from Gouda, which also manages this plant. PBR-protected.

AB-Cultivars BV from Zuidwolde has submitted six new cultivars from the Helenium range for the new plant awards: Helenium autumnale ’Siesta’, Helenium autumnale ’Salsa’, Helenium autumnale ’Ranchera’, Helenium autumnale ’Fuego’, Helenium autumnale ’Bandera’ and Helenium autumnale ’Sombrero.’

In combination with Compass Plants B.V. from Hillegom, Verschoor A. Horti Import/Export B.V. from Haarlem has entered six Heuchera hybrids and one Heucheralla for the new plant awards. These PBR-protected plants were bred by Terra Nova Inc. from the US and are being marketed by Compass Plants B.V. in collaboration with A. Verschoor Horticulture Import/Export B.V.

They are: Heuchera 'Black Taffeta', Heuchera 'Cherry Cola', Heuchera 'Fire Alarm', Heuchera 'Glitter', Heuchera 'Zipper', Heuchera 'Galaxy' and Heucherella 'Twilight'.

De Jong Plant BV from Boskoop has entered three cultivars from the Hydrangea macrophylla BLACK DIAMONDS series for the new plant awards: Hydrangea macrophylla ‘Baroque Angel’, Hydrangea macrophylla ‘Dark Angel’ and Hydrangea macrophylla ‘Red Angel’.

Hydrangea macrophylla 'Deep Purple' has been entered for the new plant awards by De Jong Plant BV from Boskoop.

Hylotelephium tatarinowii 'Pure Joy' is from Cultivaris North America LLC.

Lavandula stoechas 'Bandera Purple' was bred by Kieft Seed from Venhuizen, which is also marketing the plant.

Compass Plants B.V. from Hillegom has entered three PBR-protected Lobelias from the Princess series for the new plant awards. The plants were bred by Peter Dealtrey from The Old Counting House in the UK and are being marketed by Walter Blom Plants in collaboration with Compass Plants B.V.

They are: Lobelia speciosa 'Gencrim', Lobelia speciosa 'Genlet' and Lobelia speciosa 'Genross'.

Van Son & Koot BV from Kaatsheuvel has entered three varieties from the FAIRY MAGNOLIA range for the new plant awards. They were bred by Mark Jury from New Zealand. The PBR-protected plants are marketed by Van Son & Koot BV and Anthony Tesselaar Plants in Australia. They are: Magnolia 'MicJur01’ (FAIRY MAGNOLIA BLUSH), Magnolia 'MicJur02’ (FAIRY MAGNOLIA CREAM) and Magnolia 'MicJur05’ (FAIRY MAGNOLIA WHITE).

Miscanthus sinensis 'Mobri' (MORNING BRIGHT) was bred by Merz Stauden from Germany. Cultivaris North America LLC from Germany entered this variety for the new plant awards and is also marketing the plants.

Nepeta faassenii 'Publu' (PURRSIAN BLUE) was entered for the new plant awards by Cultivaris North America LLC from Germany, which is also marketing the plant. It was bred by Walters Gardens, Inc. from the US.

Pennisetum alopecuroides 'Hameln Gold' was entered for the new plant awards by Cultivaris North America LLC from Germany, which is also marketing the plant. This PBR-protected Pennisetum was bred by Merz Stauden from Germany.

Physocarpus opulifolius 'Hoogi016' was bred by Schurch from the Czech Republic. Handelskwekerij G. Hoogenraad bv from Ederveen entered the plant for the new plant awards and is also marketing the plant.

Physocarpus opulifolius 'SMPOTW' was bred by Spring Meadow Nursery from the US. Valkplant BV from Boskoop is marketing the plant and also entered it for the new plant awards.

Sambucus racemosa 'SMNSRD4' (LEMON LACE) was bred by Spring Meadow Nursery from the US.

Syringa 'SMSJBP7' (BLOOMERANG DARK PURPLE) is being marketed by Valkplant BV from Boskoop. Bred by Spring Meadow Nursery from the US.

Weigela 'Slingco1' (ALL SUMMER RED) was developed after years of selective breeding by Bert Verhoef from Boskoop. Valkplant BV from Boskoop is marketing this plant together with Bert Verhoef.
