Plant breeder Kerley & Co prepares for spring plant trial

Kerley & Co's is planning a spring trial for weeks 20 and 21, from 11 to 23 May. It will be open Monday to Saturday.

Next season will be Kerley-bred Petunia Priscilla's 20th season - Priscilla Petunia is still Kerley's biggest selling variety.

This year Kerley has more  than 400 basket petunias in trial, including many experimentals as well as commercial varieties.

In addition there are more than 200 compact varieties for tubs and window boxes including a new series of early mounding types which initiate flower buds in short days.

The spring trial will be an opportunity to see Kerley's Power Daisy and the new colours in development.  As it's hardy, it can be sold from March onwards in Western Europe.  August-September sales will give flowers almost to Christmas.

Kerley hopes Balconita trailing pansies will still be in reasonable shape - there are four new colours to see - and there are new upright frilly types for commercial testing next winter.
