His son Peter Gray said the sale would enable a distribution of the estate between himself and his three siblings, but that the change of use was not imminent.
"It has been sold to Wokingham Borough Council to turn into sports pitches to go with the 2,500 homes which are expected to be built alongside," he said.
"But as that's some time away, we will retain a tenancy for at least three years. We will be here for a while - it's still a thriving pick-your-own business."
