The Orange "Do Some Good" app was designed to encourage people to volunteer for charities by allowing them to carry out an activity for a good cause in fewer than five minutes using their smart phones.
Orange designed volunteering apps for 12 causes including guerrilla gardening group Scan, children's play organisation Play England, World Clean Air Forest Initiative and Groundwork UK.
Volunteers can download the apps and use them to take photos of their favourite open spaces and playgrounds or places that they feel need more trees or plants.
Each group will use the apps for different purposes such as mapping areas that need improvements or creating a national map of playgrounds. Groundwork UK will use its "Urban Oasis" app to create an interactive map for people to find new green spaces to visit.
A representative from the environmental charity said: "We realise that public money is very tight and green space maintenance is coming under mounting pressure and we feel our new app is a great way for us to raise the profile of green space by showing how in demand it is."
Other groups to benefit from the partnership include the Samaritans, Sustrans, Young Foundation, Photo Foundation, Future Morph, Cyber Mentors, Practical Action and the Sustainable Restaurant Association.
