The red tulip with a white border is a reference to his birthplace, Liverpool.
The initiative to name the tulip to Paul McCartney came from Rose van Teylingen and bulb grower Jack Uittenbogaard, a member of Remarkable Tulips.
Uittenbogaard said: "It is personally a long-held wish to honour my musical hero with a Dutch tulip. Perhaps we plant in the garden of Paul McCartney his tulip this autumn."
The Royal bulb company Jac. Uittenbogaard & Zn from Noordwijkerhout is one of the companies that will have the new tulip in production. The Tulip will be available within 3 years.
