For two or three decades the "new perennial movement" has infiltrated planting design to the extent that it can no longer be called "new".
Much of the winter of has been a perfect realisation of the climate change predictions made for the UK - more mild, wetter winters. Whether this is a one-off or a taste of the future, who knows? But whatever the outcome, the reality is that an increasingly volatile and extreme climate poses severe challenges, particularly in urban areas, where the economic impact may be highest.
