NFU Agricultural Wages Board (AWB) negotiator and Hayloft Plants grower Derek Jarman said: "This is exactly what the Government doesn't want - an inflation-busting claim and extra bank holiday when there's one extra this year for the royal wedding and next year for the Queen's 60th jubilee."
Unite has said it will present more detailed information behind the claim in May and the negotiations will be held in June. The new Agricultural Wages Order comes in this October. The Government is planning to abolish the AWB.
Jarman added that Defra had spent £30,000 on a desk-based impact assessment for the possible abolition.
