Next plans gardening offer

High Street fashion and homewares retailer Next plans to open stores with garden centres as part of out-of-town Next Home shops.

The first of seven new stores to open by early 2011 will be at Shoreham-by-Sea in West Sussex, site of a former Homebase DIY store.

Next is planning to sell both clothing and homewares in the 5,000 sqm store, as well as garden furniture and other outdoor products.

Next opened its first Next Home store in Braehead, Scotland, in 2003 and a second in Lakeside three years later.

Next chief executive Simon Wolfson said: "We have focused on extending or moving within existing trading locations and opening new Next Home stand-alone stores. This year, we anticipate adding around 336,000 sq ft of trading space."
