The European Landscape Architecture Student Association (ELASA) could hold two "mini-meeting" events next year, after interest from Swiss and Slovenian members. Normally there is one such meeting each year, as well as an annual meeting, set to be held in Latvia this year and Germany in 2011.

UK-based Rowan Longhurst, who now works for Land Use Consultants after completing a masters in landscape architecture at the University of Sheffield, co-organised the Edinburgh meeting.

"The "Back to Basics" theme was about reverting to the core principles of landscape architecture," she explained. "That was very much in response to the current economic climate."

Swiss students are now planning to run a mini-meeting in summer 2011, while a Slovenian meeting could take place earlier in the year.

"We would like to see a meeting in Slovenia in January or February and I will be helping out with advice," said Longhurst.

She added that current landscape architecture students could often help their career prospects by joining organisations like ELASA.

"It is a social and professional network," Longhurst explained. "The meetings are also always culturally incredibly interesting."
