The FR Jones & Son arboriculture event is being set up in a response to demand, according to its organiser, and will tap into a need for more specialist shows.
FR Jones director Justin Jones told HW that 40 exhibitors had already signed up for the new show — to be held on 28-29 August at Kingswood Training Services' base in Shipbourne.
Jones expects at least 80 exhibitors in total, as well as significant numbers of visitors. He explained: "There is a massive demand. People have been saying there is no show in Kent and I've had a lot of interest already. I printed 4,000 flyers about the show and I've only got a few left.
"I think it will compete with the Arborists' Trade Fair in the future."
The fact that the event boasts free admission and parking will be an important draw for visitors, added Jones.
The FR Jones show will feature climbing competitions, seminars, demos and equipment sales.
Exhibitors that have signed up include GreenMech, Fletcher Stewart, Stihl and Husqvarna.
"I have been planning the show for about six months but it has been at the back of my mind for around two years," revealed Jones. "I am expecting a wide visitor base — not just from areas near Kent. There are people coming from Inverness, Kirklees council and Huddersfield."
AA director Nick Eden said he supported the new show and added it would provide a location for other visitors from around the country.
