School gardens boost learning

A new report suggests that teaching gardening at school helps children to become more flexible, self-confident and better learners.
The RHS report Gardening in Schools - A Vital Tool for Children's Learning was prepared by the National Foundation for Educational Research. Researchers spoke to 1,300 teachers and studied 10 schools belonging to the RHS Campaign for School Gardening.
They found that children taught gardening became more active learners and were better able to communicate and work in a team.
The RHS launched its campaign for school gardening in 2007. There are currently 2.5 million pupils signed up.
