Christopher Lloyd plantsmanship scholarship set for Great Dixter

Friday, 02 July 2010

A new scholarship has been set up at the historic gardens at Great Dixter in East Sussex to allow students to study the traditional skills of planting and plantsmanship.

The Christopher Lloyd Scholarship will start from September as part of a successful fundraising effort from the Garden Museum in London and the Heritage & Botanic Garden Bursary Scheme.

Founded in the 15th century, Great Dixter had been run by Lloyd, who made a life's work of combining old and new techniques.

Trainees will study the seasonal maintenance of gardens. They will also learn about methods of building and maintaining paths and will be expected to obtain Lantra qualifications to level three.
