National Plant Show - preview
Saturday, 01 May 2010
Organisers are confident that this event is relevant even without Garden Expo running alongside, says Matthew Appleby.
The UK's biggest plant fair the National Plant Show will hold its inaugural event on 29-30 June. Organisers believe that that this year's event will be a success despite the cancellation of garden-product show Garden Expo, which was due to debut alongside it.
The National Plant Show has received visitor registrations from 135 businesses and has booked 83 companies and 101 stands, with more to be confirmed.
The HTA-organised show is to extend into a second hall at Stoneleigh. The demise of Expo, which did not attract enough exhibitors, has left Hall Two at Stoneleigh vacant. HTA PR manager Gill Ormrod says: "Hall One is full so we're extending into a second hall. We were originally looking at a marquee but with Garden Expo not happening in Hall Two there is extra space. This is a great opportunity to look at whole UK plant supply chain under one roof."
Provar will be co-sponsor of a national plant award with a linked new plant display "a big focus".
HTA business development director Tim Briercliffe says: "The original thinking behind the National Plant Show was that it was a show in its own right. Garden Expo came along later - so the initial premise of holding a single plant show still stands. Visitor registrations are looking good."
Latest exhibitors to sign up are: David G Ross, Newington Nurseries and John Train Plants.
