Horticultural Exhibitors Association (HEA) chairman Kelvin Harbutt welcomed the move which will see special displays by 25 nurseries for a marquee centre-piece.

Harbutt said: "There was a feeling that to a certain extent when you go into the floral marquee, it has looked the same as it did 15-years ago. The HEA was concerned that there wasn't a lot of change coming through so it's great to see something different.Anything that keeps the show fresh and in people's minds is a good thing. We have been putting ideas across for a while about how we might find new ways of showing things differently."

The 25 nurseries selected to create special displays will help compile a shortlist of favourite plants for a "Best of the Best" signature collection.

A new People's Choice Award will also be introduced to the floral marquee for the first time.

Cath's Garden Plants are taking part in the festivities and they will be creating a special celebration themed stand featuring 3D cards.

Owner Bob Sanderson said: "I think it's a good idea in that it involves the public and anything that involves the public more and makes them really look at the exhibits is definitely a good thing."
