Vegetables planted by London Food Board chair Rosie Boycott and celebrity chef Michel Roux Jr in The Royal Parks allotment in St James's Park were used at a restaurant event at the weekend.

The vegetables were delivered to the Taste of London enclosure in Regent's Park on Friday (19 June) for use during the festival, which took place from 18-21 June.

Rosie Boycott said: "The allotment in St James's Park offers visitors a living example of how to grow their own fruit and veg, and the produce is excellent. Boosting the amount of locally grown food in London is hugely important especially during the current economic climate. It will help to make London a greener, more pleasant place to live while providing healthy and affordable food."

A Royal Parks representative said: "The Royal Parks' organic allotment in St James's Park has been very popular, with over 200,000 visitors in two years. The focus of this years' allotment is on growing fruit and veg in a confined space.  The allotment shows that even if all you have is a window sill it is still possible to grow a number of different vegetables. We hope that the Royal Parks allotment will inspire more people to grow their own."
