New bursary available for landscape architecture students
By Gemma Mackenzie Thursday, 02 September 2010
A specific bursary for landscape architecture students has been made available through the Stephen Lawrence Trust.
The Trust was named after teenager Stephen Lawrence, who was murdered in south-east London in 1993, has a history of awarding educational bursaries but this is the first specific one for landscape architecture students.
The bursary, supported by the Worshipful Company of Paviors and the Landscape Institute, is aimed at black, Asian and ethnic minority students who come from a family without a history of higher education.
Successful candidates will be given funding towards the cost of their studies, course fees and basic living expenses over the forthcoming academic year.
Landscape Institute CEO Alastair McCapra said: "The Landscape Institute has made a clear commitment to improving diversity, and compared with medicine, law or accountancy, the built environment professions generally lag some way behind.
"The Stephen Lawrence Trust was established to remedy this, and it has the contact networks that enable us to reach young people who might never have considered landscape architecture as a career."
The application form for bursaries for the 2011/12 academic year is available at www.stephenlawrence.org.uk
