New play park to open in Hayling Island

Local residents and councillors will be celebrating the re-opening of a public play park following the extensive refurbishment of the facilities in the Mengham area of Hayling Island.

The grand re-opening of Mengham Play area St Andrew’s Road, Eastoke will take place at 11am on Saturday 15 August.

Development of the new play area has involved installation of modern and traditional play equipment aimed for children of all ages. The state-of-the-art adventure playground facilities include an aerial runway, spinning orbit, board and air riders, a climbing activity net, as well as swings and slides.

The renovation of the play area has been designed with bright, colourful features. The cost of the project totalled £79,000 and is a result of the community led group known as Play Parks for Hayling (PP4H) who have secured funding for the project through local and national sponsorship.

Councillor Yvonne Weeks, cabinet lead for communities said: "This is a wonderful example of what can be achieved by local active Community Groups. The good work of all involved is to be applauded, as the outcome has greatly improved play facilities for everyone."
