Matthew Payne was European head of distribution at Scotts Miracle-Gro where he managed six warehouses and 11 transport operations across Europe.
As well as strategy, he will focus on improving service and overseeing the operation at Kings Lynn, managed by logistics director Karen Fraser.
Chief executive officer Pete Utting said: "I am thrilled to welcome somebody of Matt's calibre to Gardman to spearhead our operations strategy and execution at this very exciting time.
"It is a further demonstration of our commitment to build on our service improvements this year."
Payne said he was joining Gardman at a key time in its development and looked forward to working to deliver a market-leading service proposition to support the company's growth plans.
The business has more than 4,000 lines such as garden tools, ironwork and nest boxes. Brands include Moulton Mill, Cole & Bright, Blacksmith and Ernest Charles.
Three and a half years ago a big restructuring involved its four operating companies in the UK, the USA and Australia being acquired by a new parent company, GGML, owned by Gardman Group.
