The £150,000 consumer campaign will emphasise how healthy, tasty, versatile and easy to prepare watercress is.

Run by specialist PR agency PamLloyd, the campaign will run across a range of media platforms including print, broadcast and digital, focusing on younger consumers in particular.

Tom Amery, managing director of The Watercress Company which co-founded the Watercress Alliance, said: "We are investing in increased production of watercress to enable us to meet consumer demand.

"Part of this investment involves us finding new audiences for our crop, including those who might never have tried it, or think it's there simply as a garnish."
