New product Wild Gardener was aimed at urban growers, an "emerging trend", said Beharell. However the seed product, he said, was "aimed at the Bake Off/Masterchef viewer" and its edible flowers variety was "stand out product". RRP is £3.49.
Answering questions about alternatives' price and efficacy raised by Scotts Miracle Gro chief executive Jim Hagedorn, Beharell said that rival controls companies would defend under-pressure active glyphosate "to the hilt" but maintained that "alternatives do work". He conceded that glyphosate was "dominant in the market", but neonicotinoids went out of the market "under not a lot of pressure".
He said that development costs of glyphosate "were recouped years ago but ultimately, long-term, the industry will have to find a replacement".
He said systemic controls from Neudorff, Vitax (SPK) and Hygea in Ireland were available.
