The Gardeners' World presenter will join trustees and guests at the Botanical Gardens on October 3 as they raise funds for the gardens, an educational charity.

Guests at the event will sample a four-course dinner prepared by the gardens' newly-appointed caterers, Ampersand, who operate in other venues including The Tower of London and Hampton Court Gardens.

Guests at the event will be able to dance to music from King Pleasure and The Biscuit Boys.

Birmingham Botanical Gardens chief executive James Wheeler said: "We are delighted to have secured Monty to speak at our inaugural Trustees Ball. Monty has visited the gardens on a number of occasions and we’re very much looking forwards to his return this autumn."

He added: "There are only five full-time gardeners at present meaning we have to rely heavily on gardening volunteers to help ensure the facility runs smoothly. We thus need funding to be able to employ more full time gardeners to ensure all areas of the gardens are kept blossoming.

"We rely on charitable donations to keep the gardens running, without which we would struggle to maintain this significant heritage landmark. The inaugural Trustees’ Ball is another way we are aiming to boost our funds. "

The Birmingham Botanical Gardens Trustees’ Ball will be held on October 3.
