Matthew Wilson to open garden centre plantaria

TV and radio gardening expert and award winning RHS Chelsea Flower Show designer, Matthew Wilson will open the new plant department at Tong Garden Centre on 20 April.

Wilson will officially open the refurbished outdoor plant area with the team of gardening experts at Tong, and members of the public are invited to attend at 11am.

Wilson, the former curator of RHS Harlow Carr in Harrogate and respected writer, broadcaster and lecturer, will also will talk to customers about the inspiration behind the Welcome to Yorkshire garden that he has created for this year's Chelsea Flower Show. Tong Garden Centre is proud to support and be involved with the garden that is inspired by the East Window at York Minster and is called ‘God's Own County - A Garden For Yorkshire'.

Tong Garden Centre marketing manager, Jo Dales said: "We are a garden centre first and foremost and are very proud of the new plant area with its extensive range of Yorkshire grown bedding, great quality plants and a friendly team of gardening experts."

At the opening ceremony there will also be a free prize draw for two tickets to the Chelsea Flower Show with £100 towards travel and a second prize of two tickets to the VIP Welcome at the Harrogate Flower Show on Sunday April 24.

Tong Garden Centre has recently introduced a lifetime guarantee on all its hardy plants.

Tong Garden Centre occupies a 17 acre site in Tong village. It is one of Yorkshire's biggest garden centres with 110,000 square feet of retail space and parking for up to 1,000 cars.
