The former Harrogate Flower Show director said: "I'm delighted and honoured to be asked to play a part in shaping the future of such a prestigious garden in the north of England. I've visited Harlow Carr many times over the years and witnessed how it's developed and improved. I'm now looking forward to making my own small contribution to ensuring this beautiful garden continues to delight and inspire gardeners and visitors of all ages."
He joins landscape designer Sarah Eberle and director of the Yorkshire Arboretum John Grimshaw as Harlow Carr's third garden advisor. He will also join the RHS gardens committee, which oversees the strategic development of the four RHS gardens at Harlow Carr in North Yorkshire, Wisley in Surrey, Rosemoor in Devon and Hyde Hall in Essex.
