The 6.9kg EN4950H features a new gear drive transmission which converts the rotary shaft drive into cutting strokes for the 49cm long blade.

The double-sided blade will run up to 2,100 strokes per minute and will cut 21.5mm branches with ease, the manufacturer says.

This pole trimmer, which has an overall length of 2.55 metres, is powered by the 25.4cc Makita MM4 4-stroke engine that delivers 1.03hp and 1.1Nm of torque.

Makita says the MM4 engine provides "major fuel economies for landscape contractors with the additional benefits of low noise and clean emissions".

In addition it says that running on neat petrol means the risks associated with two-stroke oil mixing are eliminated and adds that the engine’s pressurised lubrication system enabling the trimmer to be used at any angle.
