"You look at it and think it's so tiny; what on earth could it achieve? But it proves size doesn't matter," says our tester.
The 6935 boasts a percussion action of up to 3,000 impacts per minute to force the bit into the cross slot in the head of the screw. At the same time, the rotating action drives the screw home. Not only does this prove quick but it also reduces the chances of "caming out" - the nasty habit of the bit jumping out of the slot, causing damage to the screw head as it does so. The 6935 runs at up to 2,300rpm - that's twice as fast as conventional drill/drivers. It all adds up to a massive improvement in speed.
As well as speeding up the job, the 6935 also makes light of the work and provides convenience. For starters, there are no electricity leads to get in the way. This driver has an AC-style Marathon motor powered by a 2.6Ah nickel metal hydride battery capable of driving more than 100 65mm-long screws into pine on a single charge. And being nickel instead of mercury means you don't have to completely re-charge the battery before use. What's more, with up to 125Nm of torque available - compared to 30Nm for a conventional drill/driver - the substantial reduction in hand and arm pressure needed to operate it is a real boon.
"There's no pressure needed and it's really lightweight. Think of the time and effort you save when constructing decking or erecting a fence or pergola," says the tester.
There are two other features worth mentioning. Both demonstrate that Makita has an understanding of user needs. Firstly, the driver has a fluorescent ring marker so even if the job goes on late into the evening, you can spot the tool in the dark. Secondly, a small torch light is incorporated into the head to enable safe work in dimly lit corners.
