Stone cutting must rank as one of the dirtiest, noisiest and generally unpleasant outdoor tasks. Yet Makita manages to take away much of the stress of the work. For starters, there is the full rubber sheathing to protect the operator's hands. Then there is the pattern. This rests on the slab so that the saw works to required depth. Depth is adjustable from zero to 100mm and the cutting guide makes cutting a straight line easy. The motor and handle can be positioned within a 45? angle so you can always be sure of being comfortable and in control. A dust extraction connection is standard on the 4112HS.
Our tester finds it easy to maintain control of the saw and finds little vibration during the process. "There is no problem with controlling the saw and guiding it across the slab once you get the plate down flat - it simply can't go anywhere else but straight," he comments. "It's not fair to compare electric with engine-powered cut-off saws, but the reduced vibration is certainly noticeable."
