McCurdy said he would not tolerate anyone using the term 'Majestic Trees' as part of a company's title to "piggyback" on his business and be at the top of the page on Google when a customer types in his company's name.
He said phone calls may not be successful in similar cases but a threat of legal action may help solve the problem, advising other businesses: "I would get your solicitor onto it."
McCurdy said: "We have spent a lot of money on optimisation/SEO to get to our natural ratings, so for people to piggyback on your success is really naughty. I think it's uncool and people shouldn't do it."
He added that there are increasing numbers of "virtual nurseries" in the UK that operate importing trees and selling them via the web so the issue is growing.
