We have a lot of high pruning to do annually. We use rope-pull-type loppers for much of the work but are looking to do the work faster. We have looked at petrol-powered pole pruners but need something lighter in weight. Is there a battery-powered long-reach pruner?

I am glad to hear you are trying to do the work with your feet firmly on the ground. Pruning work at height is a difficult task - it can involve cherry pickers or scaffolding-type platforms, but if you can use pole pruners you should see productivity increase.

Pellenc makes two models of telescopic electric pole-pruner. The 1.5m model extends to 2m and the 2.2m unit will extend to 3m via an easy-to-adjust knob.

The saw heads have automatic oil-flow control and chain-tension adjustment and the head can set in high, low or axial positions.

The power comes from lithium-ion batteries that give eight hours of cutting before recharging is necessary. Excluding the battery pack, the smaller pole saw weighs 2.7kg.
