There are a lot of very favourably priced tractors coming from countries like Korea. What is the lowest-priced tractor available in the UK?

Assuming you mean conventional four-wheel tractors, then yes there is plenty of choice. Kioti tractors, supplied in the UK by Ruston’s Engineering of Huntingdon, include mini compacts from 19hp to 28hp, with prices starting just under £10,000 ex VAT. There are also compacts of 35hp, 40hp, 45hp and 50hp. Another Korean build is the range of TYM tractors. These start with a 23hp model for around £8,000 and increase to the top-of-the-range 70hp machine for between £17,000 and £20,000 depending on specification. But the lowest-price tractor I have found, however, is the Siromer from China.
This range of tractors includes 20hp, 28hp and 47hp models. The smallest — the S204 — has a starting price of £2,950 and even the S404 47hp machine is only £7,500 ex VAT. They are diesel powered, have power steering and four-wheel drive as standard and feature a choice of gearboxes. There’s also a choice of tyres.
But there is a snag. These tractors arrive flat-packed. For your money you will receive a crate with all the parts neatly tucked into it. The UK supplier of Siromer tells me that assembly takes between 10 and 18 hours. And it must be fairly easy because 1,000 units have been sold in just five years. But we’ll see. HW is hoping to put it to the test in the near future.
