Longacres on the look out for new centres

Surrey garden centre Longacres has reported increased turnover and profits and is looking for "ailing" businesses to resurrect.

The group has four sites, including the UK's highest turnover site in Bagshot, and one in Ashford, Kent, acquired in 2016. Turnover to 31 December 2016 is £32.3m (£30.7m), up 5.21%, while profits are up 4% to £10.3m.

Director Nigel Long said the business model allowed for the company to "always be on the lookout for popular but underperforming garden centres with good potential".

Other recently filed accounts include Polhill which turned over £10.82m (£11.17m) in the year to 31 December 2016, with operating profit of £795,000 (£767,000) and Millbrook, which had turnover of £7.02m (£6.81m) with operating profit of £313,000 (£180,000) in the year to 31 January 2017.
