London's Barking Park comes to life with arrival of 30,000 shrubbery plants

A project to revitalise the historic features of east London's Barking Park is underway now that the first plants for its restored Victorian shrubbery have arrived.

The masterplan for the Heritage Lottery-funded restoration was created by LDA Design and nearly 30,000 plants have been delivered by Boultons Nurseries.

The plants will be stored and grown on at the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham's own nursery. It will also grow plants for the ornamental garden as well as continuing to grow plants for other parks in the borough.

The renovation of Barking Park is joint-funded by a £3,254,000 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund plus funding from the council.

Once completed, the park will boast a new cafe, visitor centre, play area and public toilets. The derelict lido will be brought back into use as a wet play area. Boating facilities will be built and 50 seats installed across the park.
