London Olympic bid submits plan

London Olympic 2012 backers have sent plans for the games to the International Olympic Committee

London Olympic 2012 backers have sent plans for the games to the International Olympic Committee. They include a £300 million stadium on a 200ha site in Stratford, east London. It will replace London’s run-down Crystal Palace athletics stadium after the Olympics. Deputy prime minister John Prescott has released £100 million towards regenerating Thames Gateway. The allocation is part of the £446 million that Prescott designated as part of the Sustainable Communities Plan in 2003. Office of the Deputy Prime Minister under secretary Phil Hope has launched a neighbourhood transformation competition. The Picture of Change competition will reward local groups that have led change in their area with the chance to win £6,000 to improve or maintain their work.
