Lewisham seeks contractor to manage Beckenham Place Park

A contract to manage and maintain a historic open space in the London Borough of Lewisham will provide at least a 20-year deal for the successful firm.

The local authority is planning to let the work at Beckenham Place Park to a contractor who can manage the 98ha site as a country park and golf course.

Glendale currently operates the golf course as part of its long-term parks and open spaces management deal with Lewisham, which was renewed in November 2009.But the management of the estate has been kept in-house until now.

Lewisham's parks regeneration manager Martin Hyde told HW the council would be open to all proposals and expressions of interest that could potentially come up with a financial solution for the park.

The idea is for the contractor to undertake a management contract of sufficient length that investment could be attracted into the park.

"Historically, Beckenham Place Park has always been separate from the Glendale contract," Hyde explained. "It is the largest park in the borough with two listed buildings. This is not the best time to seek funding so we are open to hearing about financial vehicles."

A Grade II*-listed mansion on site is not included in the contract. The council will hold an open day at the park for interested firms on 22 April from 12-4pm. Email devitri.singh@lewisham.gov.uk.
