Lawnmower sales down 6%

Analysts GfK have found that domestic lawnmower sales "have not had the easiest start to the year" because of a late start to the season caused by the cold winter.

By April the market was already down by more than 30% in value (Jan-April 2009 versus Jan-April 2010).

Decline has been in both Hover Collect and Electric Rotary mowers (the two largest areas of the market), declining 28.9% and 20.8% respectively, Jan-April 2009 compared to 2010.

Petrol Rotary declined only 7.2% over the same period.

Since the spring the market has improved and has experienced month-on-month growth two months in a row, with 2.1% growth in in June 2009 against June 2010.

The total market is down 5.92% in value, Jan-Jun 2009 compared to the same period this year.
