Lantra and GreenSpace unveil industry skills assessment tool

A skills assessment tool for the green space sector that aims to plot career development and tackle skills gaps has been developed by Lantra and GreenSpace.

The GreenSKILL tool has been piloted at Leicester City Council and is now ready for a full roll-out across the industry, said GreenSpace business development manager Dave Tibbatts.

The system is based on National Occupational Standards and sector-approved job profiles, which describe the skills, knowledge and understanding required to do a job.

This allows the employer and employee to develop and record skills against specific environmental and land-based jobs.

Skills research published by CABE and English Heritage earlier this month showed that although 44 per cent of the sector's workforce is qualified to degree level or above, there is a shortage of skills in particular careers

Lantra's David Winn said: "The GreenSKILL tool provides a structure for the green space sector that will benefit both staff and employers by providing a road map for skills development."
