Lancashire County Cricket Club former groundsman dies

Former head groundsman for Lancashire County Cricket Club Peter Marron has died aged 59.

Maroon was head groundsman for 25 years and worked at the club for more than 30.

He won numerous awards for his grounds and Test Match wickets, which helped to forge the reputation of Emirates Old Trafford as having one of the best Test pitches in the country, the club said.

He oversaw the first music concert on the ground and also re-laid the square twice during his time at Old Trafford.

He retired in 2008, handing over the reigns to Matt Merchant.
