Judges set to assess best new mowers

Second WhatKit? Product of the Year contest launched, covering industry's latest mowers across three categories.

The very best mower introductions for professional users are set to go under a judging panel's microscope over the next four months as the second WhatKit? Product of the Year contest gets underway.

Launched last year by Horticulture Week and sister product comparison website www.WhatKit.co.uk, the WhatKit? Product of the Year awards scheme is designed to celebrate the very best in professional kit and machinery for turf, grounds, arboriculture and landscape professionals - and to encourage further development and excellence in the professional machinery sector.

The contest to find the very best new mower introductions will be split into three categories - WhatKit? Pedestrian Mower of the Year, WhatKit? Ride-on Mower of the Year and WhatKit? Tractor-Mounted/Towed Mower of the Year.

The winner of each of these three categories will be announced at a special reception at this year's Saltex grounds care, sports and green space exhibition, which takes place at the show's new venue, the NEC in Birmingham, on 4-5 November.

The awards are a natural extension of HW's long-standing commitment to reporting on the very latest developments in the kit and machinery world. This includes HW's unique industry Kit Tests run by HW technical editor and acknowledged UK kit expert Sally Drury with the generous help of her team of professional testers.

The very first WhatKit? Product of the Year award - for the best turf-care product - was awarded to the VGR Top Changer from Campey Turf Care Systems.

Described by judges as a potential "game changer" for golf courses and sports turf, it was chosen from a long list of 30 turf-care products that were introduced to the market between December 2013 and December 2014.

This was then whittled down to a shortlist of 14 products that were judged by HW technical editor Sally Drury along with her panel of independent judges.

If you have products that you wish to be considered for the Pedestrian Mower of the Year, the Ride-on Mower of the Year or the Tractor-Mounted/Towed Mower of the Year, please email Sally at sally.drury@haymarket.com.
