Project: Tree moving
Client: Stud farm in Berkshire
Contractor: Nature First
Gloucester-based tree moving and semi-mature tree specialist Nature First used Europe's largest tree spade to transport trees to a stud farm in Berkshire.
Nature First hired the concave German Optimal Tree Spade, capable of lifting trees up to 150cm in girth, to transport six semi-mature oaks and three sycamores to the site in Berkshire. Modified Platypus anchors were used to guy the trees because of the height of the branches. The oaks ranged from 90cm-120cm in girth and were up to 12m high.
Sales and contracts manager David Jones estimated that although the two-day hire of the specialist machinery was expensive, it was 60 per cent more cost effective than supplying and planting new trees.
