Job Done - Laying a synthetic football pitch at a college in Berkshire

Project: Laying a third-generation synthetic pitch

Client: Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead

Contractor: S&C Slatter

Surfacing firm Notts Sport has overseen the laying of a synthetic pitch at Charters School, a sports and science college in Sunningdale, Berkshire.

Installer S&C Slatter laid the 61x41m Fifa 1*-approved facility designed for use by the local community as well as college students. Local residents' objections about issues such as light and noise pollution had blocked planning permission in four locations across the borough.

Notts Sport finally secured permission at Charters School and carried out an eight-week installation programme during October and November last year. It had to relocate a cricket pitch to a nearby site and then remove turf and topsoil to lay the synthetic surface.

Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead head of leisure Kevin Mist said the project aimed to satisfy high local demand for outdoor pitches in a cost-effective manner. "The facility is being well used by the local community during evenings and weekends and by students during the day," he added.
